Over the last several years, the Haunted wood has earned a reputation as one of New England's premier makers of magickal tools.  A significant portion of our work consists of custom orders.  We are able to work with a variety of materials, techniques, and magickal systems, so whatever your need, we can most likely help.  We always welcome inquiries- Please feel free to contact us any time.
Remember, that we do offer a number of items already for sale at our retail site, www.hauntedwoodonline.com

Why Choose the Haunted Wood?

The Haunted Wood's owner and primary craftsman, Michael Dolan, has over 20 years experience working with magickal systems, and a lifetime of working in the arts.  Here at the Haunted Wood, this is what we do- make magickal tools.  We do not make decorative items.  We do not make toys for Harry Potter fans.  Every magickal tool we make is intended for ritual, and treated as such from design to shipment.

Each of our items is handmade by a true craftsman.  Even machined parts are generally made in our own workshop from our own original designs, and assembled by hand.  While we normally use power tools, it is in the process of hands-on craftwork, and we are willing to use hand tools instead if it is important to the customer.

Magickal and Belief Systems
We are one of the few, if not only, shops willing to craft a magickal tool to the specifications of your tradition.  If your item must be crafted at a specific time to coincide with moon phases, planetary influences, or holidays, we will do our best to accomodate.  If you require specific workings to be done in the process of making your item, we can accomodate that as well.

We are very well aquainted with belief systems including Wicca, Ceremonial Magick, Druidry, Norse Heathenry, New Age, and even some Judeo-Christian paths.  We also have a familiarity with dozens of other religions and work with consultants who are experts in Kemetic, Greco-Roman, Eastern, African, and Native American magickal traditions.  Your tool will not be made by someone ignorant of it's use, but by a magician with a full respect and understanding of your specific beliefs.

Depending on the magickal tradition the tool is used for, the customer may be called upon to assist with rituals involved in it's creation.

Materials
We can work directly with wood, leather, ceramic, clay, fabric, plastic, and paper.  We also have limited capability to work with glass, stone, and some metals.

Additionally, we have friends in the leather and metalworking trades, as well as a number of fine clothiers and herbalists to call upon.  While we work primarilly in wood, we are most likely prepared for whatever the materials are involved in the creation of your item.
We have been known to obtain rare and high quality materials, from exotic and imported woods to jewelry quality gemstones.  We are among only a handful of people in the world working in millenia-old bog oak.  We are almost always willing to use materials which our clients send us, such as herbal preparations or native woods.

Please bear in mind that we are unwilling to work with certain materials, particularly those which may be dangerous or which are subject to federal or local laws.  This includes many animal parts, controlled substances, and endangered species of plant.  If animal parts such as bone or antler are legal to use, we generally prefer to use our own local sources.  In some cases, such as pre-CITES ivory, the customer may be required to provide documentation that the material is in fact legal.

Policies
We are willing to use materials that you send us, such as stones, feathers, or wood.* In these cases, we are not liable for loss or damage to the item/material at any point in the process, including both shipping and storage as well as manufacture.

Custom orders must be paid in full before work begins.
For some pieces, we may, at our discretion, accept a deposit upon order with the balance due between completion and delivery. We normally only do this for repeat customers or special cases. Unpaid orders will be forfiet 30 days after completion. Our rates are based on cost of materials plus an hourly "shop rate". Some rare or exotic materials may warrant an additional surcharge if acquiring them means we must go to great lengths or are unable to go through our normal suppliers. Bear in mind that the level of complexity will usually affect price far more than the cost of materials. The use of sub-contractors for blacksmithing or leatherwork will also affect prices dramatically.

We accept payments for custom orders via Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, PayPal, check, or money order. Checks will be allowed to clear before work begins on your order.

We will give you our best estimate on when your order will be shipped, but this is not a guarantee. While we keep a good amount of materials on hand, certain materials such as exotic woods or precious stones may need to be specially ordered for your item- this can delay our work substantially. We will always keep you up to date with everything we know regarding the timing of your order.

If the client wishes, we will post regular updates with pictures of the work as it is completed. You are responsable for letting us know of any changes or problems while we can still correct them. As a matter of policy, all sales on custom items are final and both orders and deposits are non-returnable. That said, we are reasonable people- feel free to talk to us if you are unhappy with your order, and we will do everything within reason to make it right.
